Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the reseach for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1371:
This is going to be a short post because the morning is already almost gone, and I do want to do a little reading of the novel I have been reading.
We finished watching Bodkin last evening (show about people doing a podcast in Ireland investigating a 25 year old mystery disappearance.) We really enjoyed and I would recommend it. Not sure what our next series we will binge will be. I slept well, in fact, I was sound asleep when my alarm went off at 5:10, which just gave me enough time to shower and have breakfast before my 6 o’clock zoom yoga class. After that, I checked my email and did my first 20 minute walk of the day. Then Rio the border collie came over for weekly visit, and next I had a scheduled phone call that just ended, and before long it will be time to start working on preparing lunch!
As I shared yesterday, I am now into my second day without taking any pain medication. I wish I could say I was pain-free, but those days were gone decades ago when the prednisone-sinduced neuropathy started making standing or walking uncomfortable. However, so far, the past two days without medication the pain levels in my knees and feet are closer to the usual level of discomfort that I am generally able to ignore throughout the day. A definite sign of progress.
I thought I would include these photos of a bush that has a very strong, sweet smell. It reminds me a little of honeysuckle, but I don’t think it is. Once again, I always appreciate when people can identify the plants that I am enjoying on my walks, so do let me know if you recognize it in the comments.
