Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1245:
Very pleased that despite yesterday being a very busy day, once again I got over 1000 words written. I started out doing an hour and a half of cleaning downstairs, doing more wet mopping than usual because of all the tracked in mud after the rains. I also did 5 loads of laundry, which meant a fair amount of going up and down the stairs. Then I finished the Ta da post, wrote a little, did my Pilates, lunch, more writing, then a scheduled phone call, and after dinner I wrote for another 30 minutes (which is what it took to get over the 1000 mark.)
This morning it’s been yoga, cleaning, walking, doggie play date with Rio, and now doing this post. And a last minute phone call scheduled this morning, but I still hope to get a good amount written.
It got up to 78 degrees yesterday, already quite warm today, even turned furnace off and have doors open, but still with a cooling trend starting on Tuesday and Wednesday, and rain still predicted (99% chance!) for Thursday, followed by days of showers. Between the warmth and then the rain, I’m expecting the roses in the neighborhood really to start to take off. Right now I have to search to find even a single bloom on a bush, although the photos below are three blossoms at different stages on the same bush, which for right now is unusual.
