Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1238:
Yesterday, I actually did walk in the morning, after the rain stopped. They were forecasting it was going to rain again before dinner, so I thought I better get in at least 40 minutes in the morning in case there wasn’t time, or it was already raining after my scheduled afternoon phone call.
Well, at the 20 minute mark, when it was time to retrace my route home, it started to raina! Gentle but steady, ending just as I made it home. I had my fedora on, brim pulled down, so my face stayed dry, my jacket is rainproof, I had put on my oldest pants, which did get pretty wet, and my older shoes, which also got wet. Really, as long as my face stays dry, I’m good, so I rather enjoyed the whole experience. And it wasn’t raining after my phone call, so I got in another 25 minute walk.
As predicted, it has been raining steadily and pretty hard this morning, so for my trip to doctors, needed boots, raincoat, and umbrella. All 3 things that very seldom I have any use for. I actually had to clean off the dust from my boots (smile.) The ride there and back was only exciting in that pretty much all the intersections had huge rivers going across, and there was an emergency alert while I was at the doctor’s office on the phone, flood alert and a request that everyone stay off the roads. Any of you who live outside of a desert would find the whole thing very amusing.
Given a clean bill of health at Dr. office, with the various stuff on tests all consistent with either residue of some old infection in lungs, and heart valve deterioration that is normal with aging. Retest of lungs in 6 months, and heart, 3-5 years. And otherwise keep to doing what I am doing. So that is a relief.
Now home, cup of tea in hand, with a couple of marketing tasks, and then I hope to write all afternoon (unless the rain stops and I can sneak in a walk.)
Here is an odd lawn ornament that made me smile.
