Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, , Day 1252:
Yesterday I got in a little writing, but no more than 150 words, but I did do a 40-minute walk in in the afternoon in preparation for the fact that it was supposed to start to rain that evening. Of course, as the evening went on, the forecast pushed the start back further and further. It was very windy on the walk, clouds of all shapes and sizes moving in, with a cute little dark one scudding along (see last photo.)
Today, I have only one phone call scheduled, and hope springs eternal that I will get a little more written today. As is often the case, the newest storm seems to be partially by-passing us, at least for now. The time for it to start raining has been pushed repeatedly forward. And while it is very cloudy, the wind is currently not blowing. But this meant that my husband has been able to give Leeza two walks, and after my six am yoga, I also just took my 30 minute walk, so all three of us got in some exercise today, no matter what happens.
I was pleased this morning when I checked yesterday’s ebook and audiobook sales to find that the audiobooks editions of my Victorian San Francisco Mysteries that just went on sale on Chirp yesterday have started selling well. A nice bump to the daily income from my books, which I confess haven’t been all that robust the past couple of months.
Finally, just as I was ready to post this, the rain has started. The usual sort of misty drizzle, and the forecast is showers or light rain until after lunch. However, steady rain is then predicted throughout the day and into tomorrow. We shall see if that proves true, and maybe I’ll have more than these clouds from last evening to show you tomorrow. Meanwhile, I do hope that everyone along the west coast and up into the mountains weather this storm without any damage.

I love your audiobook editions! I have some and have listened to them. Maybe I'll check which ones I still need! Thanks!
Yesterday, we had a pretty nifty storm up here by SF. The wires to my house looked like jump ropes swinging in the wind. The trash containers wee all blown over and our hanging house number was all askew. My thermometer was blown off the wall and we lost power for a bit. Then, the rain we were supposed to get today and later in the week just evaporated!
Ditto, I, too love your audiobooks (and your BOOKS). 😻
