Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1615:
Sunday was both sunny and much warmer, but when we first got up the fog was so thick, we couldn’t see across the street, much less across the canyon. Out our window to the north, we normally can see the lights on several tall buildings in the midst of a sort of mini-commercial area (large mall, lots of businesses, high-rise apartments and retirement communities, and the trolly stop of a relatively new trolly that connects our community to UCSD to the north as well as downtown San Diego to the South. Yesterday morning we couldn’t see a single light!
Same thing happened this morning, but while yesterday it got up to 72 in our neighborhood, today its not supposed to bet above 62. Then again, not the weather they are having up north of us where my daughter lives in Olympia. They had snow flurries yesterday, and freezing rain is in today’s forecast for them. Brrr.
I substituted voltaren gel for Advil Saturday night, and my feet felt good enough so that I was able to do my big weekly cleaning yesterday (in three 20 minute increments) and that felt good as well. I also got a lot of stuff off my to-do list over the weekend, which was also heartening.
Today Rio the border collie is coming over to play, and I have a phone call scheduled for this afternoon. Otherwise, mostly going back to research and plotting. I am going to start putting up the next short story, Beatrice Bests the Burglar, scene by scene during February, starting with a post tomorrow about why I wrote this story. So, some work to do on this as well.
Here is another lawn ornament for your pleasure.
