Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1203:
As usual for a Sunday, yesterday I did a lot of cleaning, and we also had our groceries delivered, which always takes awhile to clean and dry all the various lettuces and the radishes I get for my salads. This meant the morning was primarily devoted to household chores, plus doing some core exercises. I have started listening to my audiobooks while cleaning and doing my Pilates, and occasionally during the 30 minutes it routinely takes for me to make my mid-day salad. The result, I can look at yesterday morning as a morning of listening to a book! Not a bad way to spend my time. No wonder the number of audiobooks I get through in a week has increased.
I did get slightly over 500 words written yesterday, but even better, I finished a scene. If I can carve out enough writing time today, I think I will succeed in finishing a chapter and be ready to outline the next couple of chapters.
After a number of days in the high 70s, with lots of sun, it was cloudy yesterday and didn’t get as warm. Starting today, a cold spell is setting in, (for us that means mid 60s in the day, high forties at night.) Even some rain is predicted this morning and tonight, with 100% chance starting Wednesday evening.
I am actually looking forward to the change, although it is too bad for the tourists who were planning on visiting over xmas break. What the change in the weather has done is cause an incredible morning sky (see picture my husband took) and now angry dark sky to the west. However, I walked early, nippy but I got in my 30 minutes, and Rio the Border Collie is do soon, and I hope the rain will hold off.
If you notice in the second photo above, there is a small part of a rainbow showing to the left and the right. Really remarkable!
However, the sun this past week did encourage some more roses to bloom. Below is the single rose on our one rose bush day before yesterday, and the second is what it looked like on my walk last evening. As you can see, it bloomed and then went almost past its prime in a very short amount of time. By tomorrow, I suspect it will start to lose its leaves if we really do get rain and wind.
