Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully. Occasionally, I will also publish some of my shorter fiction in this newsletter to read for free.
Daily Diary, Day 1678:
Yesterday was a very sunny, quite warm (high of 77 degrees) day, but the breeze kept the wind chines ringing, and when I took my walk before dinner it had started to cool down. Today started out sunny, but there was a bank of fog on the western horizon before I started doing the daily dust and sweep (see below), but by the time I finished cleaning, it had rolled in and started obscuring the sun to the east.
If I am reading the forecast right, during the next week this sort of pattern will predominate, which is very typical spring weather for San Diego. Fog and clouds in the morning and then again in the evening, which will keep the temperatures at night from getting too low, and the temperatures in the day not as high.
I only did one walk yesterday. Sundays I do my main weekly clean, which has me doing mild exercise, and standing on my feet for over an hour—so I didn’t want to over-do. But I am also trying to view Sundays as a day…not so much of rest…but more one of greater flexibility in what I try to accomplish. So, except for a 10 minute ride on the recumbent bike, I spent the rest of the morning getting completely caught up on my newsletter reading, which is a good way to start the week.
In the afternoon I did some writing, more reading, and a walk right before dinner.
Today, I’ve done yoga, basic cleaning, and I’m about to take a walk. With no phone calls scheduled, my plan is to spend as much of the day as I can (or want to) writing.
These three blooms are from the same tiny strip next to the side walk in a neighbor’s house. All three slightly different colors, all lovely.

Everything I publish in this newsletter is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for what I am writing by clicking the button below to upgrade to paid, thereby providing me more resources so I can spend more time writing my fiction and less time marketing. In addition, please do click on the heart so I know you’ve been to visit and/or share with your friends, and I always welcome comments! Thanks!
Since I can’t walk anymore I’m enjoying going with you!
We get better at adapting to circumstances, don't we? My usual routine was interrupted by extra errands, but they still gave me SOME exercise! There is always tomorrow.
