Daily Diary, Day 613: Finally got back to new writing yesterday on the novella, 566 words. Also two long phone calls, and I worked on setting up a separate substack newsletter that will primarily be to announce every month what kind of discounts (or new publications) are available in both my series. I used to put separate newsletters out for my two series, but I will be combining the mailing lists. Doing two was time consuming and inefficient, plus there were a lot of duplications with people wanting both.
I'm starting out tomorrow with just sending to my science fiction list (which is smaller) to work out any problems, but I have listed discounts in both series. I also will continue providing a chance for people to participate in a raffle for free codes for audiobooks, as well as links to promotions I am participating in with other authors, which are a good way to find new discounted books to check out.
If you are not signed up already for one of these newsletters, but are interested in how they will work, just go here, subscribe, and you should get your first newsletter tomorrow. You can always unsubscribe if you want after you have checked it out--you won't hurt my feelings! I actually figure that most of my readers already have my books, and are only interested when something new comes out--which they can learn about on facebook.
Meanwhile, today, a team of workers are here to start redoing our backyard. As I may have mentioned here, my and my husband's philosophy of gardening has always been, if plants are willing to survive with our neglect and minimal water, they get to stay. Unfortunately over time, small thyme bushes became huge, volunteer trees have sprouted in a bank, geraniums have run wild and started to tear down fencing in the upper yard, and gophers and our dog and her playmate Rio digging in those gopher holes have pretty much destroyed the grass in our lower yard. So, supposedly over 2 days this is going to be remedied. Here is the before picture of the upper yard. After pictures will follow this weekend.
Thanks for the update on the newsletters. Since I get both, it will be nice to have them all in one place. I had to laugh at your comment about geraniums going wild and tearing down fences. Living with geraniums in the northwest is always a challenge. Winter 2020 I successfully overwintered a number by some bringing them inside and some in a plastic greenhouse. 2021 was unusually harsh and they all froze in the greenhouse. Lesson learned, we will build a better greenhouse in a sunnier spot. 😊
