Daily Diary, Day 633: I must admit it, I am having trouble knowing what to write in the light of the Texas shootings of school children. It seems wrong not to mention it, to focus on the minutia of my daily life. On the other hand, these deaths are a tiny fraction of the number of children who die every day throughout the world because of the effects of war, poverty, disease, but writing about all of that every day and wallowing in despair doesn’t do me or anyone else any good.
And while I will use my vote to try and influence those decisions-makers who do have some power to support my values, and give money where I feel it can do some good, the main talent I do have is to give people some temporary relief from the difficulties in their own lives. Whether that is through this newsletter––reminding people to stop and admire the roses, stay connected with each other, enjoy a good book or TV show––or through my fiction that lets people escape to another time, another world, I will continue to concentrate on what I can do, not what I am powerless over.
So, I will send you all my virtual hugs and move onto the tale of my day. I got in my two walks, and I got 694 words written. I talked to a friend who is working through the grieving period after the death of her father, and I scheduled a phone date with my oldest close friend, and sent an email out to another old friend to schedule a get-together—maybe even one face-to-face!
I also worked on the draft of a special promotion newsletter about a StoryBundle I have a book in. Rather serendipitously, given my earlier musings above about the state of the world, this Storybundle contains 10 books all about future worlds—which is one way of escaping from the distressing news of our present. Here is a link, if you are interested in knowing more about how StoryBundles work in general and about this one in particular. https://storybundle.com/future
Today, I hope to write a little, but then we have an appointment to go pick up some plants to fill in gaps in the yard, and I have a phone meeting scheduled in the afternoon, so my writing time will be limited, but some words are better than no words!
We are feeling all the same emotions as well. We do what we can through our voting, political campaign engagement and contributions. Thank you for the info on the curated story connection. I will definitely take advantage and support the full package.
