Daily Diary, Day 631: 1120 words written this weekend, so definitely started to get my word count up. And this morning I already have 472 words, which is a good start to the day. I didn't walk this morning because I had one of those nights when I woke up at 3, after a good solid 5 hours sleep, and my body thought it was time to get up. Happens every so often, but talk about feeling draggy. I may try to get a short walk in before dinner.
This morning, Rio, the border collie who comes to play with our dog, came over for the first time in a couple of weeks (owner was out of town, then it drizzled) and this was the first time they got to play on the new grass in the back yard. They seemed to enjoy, although Leeza, our dog, decided that she would rather sit in the dirt in the upper yard and rest after only a couple of rounds of chase me, chase me. I emphasized with her...no get up and go today for me as well.
The fact that it's a typical gray May day isn't helping, but at least I do seem to be able to write--when I'm not distracted by the 5-6 crows gathering in the yard across the street. They started coming around about a month or so ago, having discovered that there is food out for a cat.
They really are intimidating birds, and I just read a scientific article about how they are able to distinguish faces. Researchers that captured and tagged crows found the birds started recognizing individual faces and staying out of reach when they showed up. Even worked when they started wearing masks. Conversely, I've heard that it you feed them, they will then start defending your house and even your person against perceived threats! You know, I have sentient animals in my science fiction series...never thought about how to incorporate birds into that world. Definitely something to think about!
Ok, time to get back to writing. Photo is of the lovely flower arrangement my husband gave me for the wedding anniversary.
It's one of those days for me too, although here is hot as hell and there are no crows distracting me from work. I wish there were, though! Such beautiful animals, and certainly very intelligent. I would feed them if I could. I do have a little baby sparrow sleeping in a box, where I'm keeping him while I try to help him rehabilitate. Poor thing fell off his nest yesterday, but he's responding well to bird formula. My cats are a constant worry since they're always trying to open my room door... They just want to hang out with mommy. Keep up the good work!
