Daily Diary, Day 654: Really late getting this post done, another busy day, but making good progress. About to start on editing chapter 12 of the novella. The first chapters were pretty easy-partly because they were establishing characters, and because I often have gone over the first chapters a couple of time before to get me back up to speed when I was away from the manuscript a few days. The middle chapters are more time consuming because more involved in, so more about making sure there are clues but that they aren't too obvious. These last five chapters will even slower, if only because I haven't read them since they were written. Also this is where I need to blend character development and moving plot forward in equal balance.
Yesterday, I made it through 3 1/2 chapters and cut 220 words. Today, so far, I've been through only one chapter and cut 161 words. But I also walked, had a morning phone call, and entertained an old friend over lunch (we shared an office for over ten years) I hadn't talked to her in a month, so we had a lot to talk about over the two hours she was here.
But I do have two more hours to work before dinner, so I should get at least one more chapter edited. Here is another variation on the daisy theme from yesterday's walk.
