Daily Diary, Day 695: I got my walk done by 9 this morning, hot, but again, audiobook got me through. On the very last chapters of the Paretsky mystery. This might even convince me to go on a second walk this evening to finish the book, since I have an eye dr. appointment tomorrow in the morning so I know I won't get a walk in then.
I did get 1173 words written yesterday, and I made it to the second chapter. Again, I have a fairly free day for writing today, which is good because tomorrow is chock full with other stuff.
Yesterday evening we watched the last episode of Irma Vep. Really enjoyed this series on HBO. Very meta—using this definition: "a consciously and playfully self-referential story, conversation, etc." There is a real 1915 French silent movie called Les Vampires (with character called Irma Vep in it); there was also a 1996 film about the filming of a movie based on that silent film called Irma Vep where Maggie Cheung plays herself as the actress playing Irma Vep. This HBO story is about a contemporary actress Mira who has been hired to do a remake of the 1915 silent film. So you get the story of Mira filming the contemporary film, scenes from that film, and clips from the 1996 film and the 1915 film.
Head explodes. No really, you add in quirky characters like the director, a rather out there German actor, romance plots, and a little magical realism where the actress Mira, when dressed in Irma Vep's cat suit appears to be able to walk through walls, and it was a simply delightful journey. Since all the episodes are now available, you could even binge watch it.
We topped the night off with another episode of the documentary about Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. This seemed fitting because it was another story of how real life and movies intersect, not always comfortably, for actors.
I will leave you with another photo of a plant I saw yesterday. I think it is a succulent, and when I looked closer, I don't know if what I thought were tiny blossoms aren't really just the leaves of the plant. But it was colorful. Anyone have a clue what it is?
