Daily Diary, Day 873:
As I mentioned last Sunday, I am no longer going to put up one of my father's poems every Sunday. I will go back and pick out favorites to put up occasionally, and I might even find a few I haven't published that seem safe for general consumption (smile), but this won't be a regular Sunday feature.
Doing the poetry posts had the advantage of not taking a lot of time, and being something that those people who were interested, knew when to expect would come out. One of my plans, once the first draft of this novel is done and has moved out to beta readers, is to review my past facebook/substack posts to see if I can't figure out how to come up with a couple of more systematic schedules for doing special posts, such as the Historical or Science Tidbits, or posts directed at authors in particular.
But for now you are going to get the usual daily post on Sundays.
Sundays are the day I do the major cleaning downstairs. Given the fact that there has been mud tracked in from the rains, the dust and wet mopping took longer. I cleaned off and on (when my husband was out of the house) for a total of slightly over two hours. As a result, I didn't try to walk. This did help me finally finish the chapter I had been working on, that dealt with some difficult emotional/romantic issues. And I've even started the next chapter and so far have 861 words written (on top of 919 yesterday) so a good start to the week's writing.
However, in a couple of minutes I have a phone call scheduled that will take me to dinner time. And as I mentioned yesterday, I have three calls scheduled (and will definitely walk before the first of these calls) so if I get any writing I get done, it will be a miracle.
Before signing off, a couple of things we watched on TV. Friday night we watched a documentary about Robert Downey Sr (done by his more famous son, Robert Downey Jr.) Long before we had ever seen Jr. in anything, my husband and I were big fans of Sr. In 1969 or 70, in college, we watched Putney Swope a very, very indie film sending up advertising, and racism, and capitalism. Very scatological, satirical, and in our mind, hilarious. To this day we still quote lines to each other and laugh. Any way, we really enjoyed the documentary, covers the end of Sr's life, and is very s
weet (also if you like Jr. will explain a lot about his life. The name of the documentary is actually Sr. I think it was on Netflix.
Last night we rented the Nick Cage movie, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. While fictional, Cage plays himself, and really did a great job of poking fun at himself. Sort of an interesting combination with the Sr. documentary!
Ok, got to go and get ready for the phone call (actually on zoom so I have to comb my hair!) Here is another set of blooms from yesterday's walk.
