Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
Daily Diary, Day 1217:
In keeping with my new shift from setting goals then seeing how well I achieved them, I decided to simply use this New Year post to start as I want to go on, with a brief discussion of my days, including my progress in writing, exercising, staying connected, and any special occurrences that made me smile.
Yesterday was my usual Sunday where I thoroughly clean the down stairs and launder everything the dog has sat on during the past week in order to keep things smelling fresh (smile.) My commitment to staying in the present meant I did not worry about the fact that it had been drizzling this morning, which meant that it was possible that as soon as our dog came back from her second walk that there might be muddy footprints on the floor. Miraculously, that didn’t happen, so I would have been worrying for no reason.
I also spent a good deal of my writing time finishing the Ta Da! post to put up yesterday, so I got a grand total of 84 words done on the novel. However, I did what I consider some more clean-up, by getting caught up with my newsletter posts, unsubscribing to a lot of various groups who have been sending me political and charitable emails, and I even spent some time hiding annoying FaceBook ads. That felt excellent!
And then this morning I got up from an only slightly disturbed sleep (when our dog came running up and hid under the bed because of fireworks) and got to witness a lovely sunrise turning the clouds pink. Seemed like a very auspicious beginning for the day and the new year.
