Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1549:
I got my proofed manuscript back last night, so you can all guess what I am going to be doing today! (And it isn’t buying any Black Friday deals. My goal for today is to make the changes then upload to the software Vellum, which formats for a variety of ebook retailers like Kindle, Kobo, etc
That will most likely take all day, and the next step will be to start the publishing process, which requires I do multiple tasks, including updating all the back matter in all of my thirty some books and republishing them. My hope is that I can get all this done by Wednesday morning when I go in to get fitted for my new splints (since I don’t know how much these splints will interfere with my ability to type.) As a result, don’t expect very long posts for the next couple of days.
Yesterday was very quiet, as planned. And except for a possible phone call, and trying to do some chair exercises, I have nothing else scheduled today. This is the last of my saved flower photos, but I have noticed that the rose bushes across the street are in bloom, so I might try going out and photographing them today or tomorrow. My foot continues to be much better as long as I don’t stand up for long or go up and down the stairs, and I must say not fighting that constant pain has been an emotional boost, but it certainly isn’t a long-term solution!

Pain is always an unwelcome companion!
I had one of those bushes when we lived in Fallbrook CA before moving to Texas. Very pretty!
