Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, , Day 1375:
Again, I slept well, in fact, I slept better than I have in some time in terms of sleeping for 2 hour or more stretches without waking, which is unusual for me. I think this was in part because I didn’t get too hot, so the change in bedding did help. I also had yoga first thing, and felt good now that we are back to 3 mornings a week, and in my first walk I walked further during my 20 minutes and that means I was walking much faster, also a good sign of improved health.
I have had one phone call with a friend already this morning, and a tentative one scheduled for after lunch, but otherwise, I don’t really have anything planned, except to continue to read book 4 of CJ Cherryh’s Foreigner series. I also may take some breaks and start re-reading my letters from my sophomore year in college to see if I'm showing any signs of maturity, and at least in terms of my letter writing.
A new person from the remodeling company is here today to do a lot of the finishing work, like caulking and putting in the faucets and showerheads and grab bars and towel bars, etc. Once this is all done, either today or Monday, all that is really left to do is for a separate company to come in and measure and then cut, and install the frosted glass shower. That is scheduled to be done by the end of next week. Then there is the city inspector who has to come in and approve, and I’m not sure if we have to wait until that inspection is final to start moving back into the master bedroom. Then of course the whole process starts all over again on as the company remodels both the hall bathroom and the powder room downstairs simultaneously. But we sort of feel like we’ve got the routine down, and have settled in for the long haul.
It is another cloudy day in fact, foggy enough this morning that the streets were are wet. Here are some photos of geraniums from yesterday’s walk whose colors were incredibly lush and vibrant.
