Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1416:
Once again, I am taking advantage of my husband being gone, walking the dogs to dictate this post, although I might have to finish it up later after I’ve had my first walk of the day and he’s having his second. I’ve already done yoga, which again was just me, the teacher, and my daughter, and either the teacher is being kind and coming up with slightly more gentle mix of routines for me, or I am actually getting a bit stronger so none of the routines were too challenging. I think I will choose to believe it is the latter.
The man installing the tile made a great deal of progress yesterday, leaving primarily the work on the edges of the shower as well as the niche that will hold shampoo. I am assuming that he will be able to get that completed today, but then I think there is the grout to apply, so it is possible that he’ll need to do that on Monday. Anyway, as I mentioned in yesterday’s post, this has him working upstairs, and most of the noise comes from the sawing of the tiles, which he does on the tools that he has set up in our upper backyard.
As a result, there was no problem sitting inside yesterday, which was a blessing because my poor husband got another headache in the afternoon and so he was glad not to sit outside, where it was quite sunny. This morning the sun has come out even earlier than it did yesterday, so I'm assuming that once again we will be glad to be sitting inside for most of the day.
As I predicted, yesterday was filled with meetings, phone calls, and therefore there wasn’t much reading time. Today I do have two phone calls scheduled, as well as needing to take the time to do the usual soaking of my eyes, being careful to not over stress my hands, and getting in my two walks.
However, right now I am going to enjoy being totally alone in the house, with complete quiet (not even the wind chimes are making a sound) and noticing how this early appearance of the sun is showing up on the hardwood floor in front of me and casting interesting shadows on the walls. My little bit of zen for the day.
