Daily Diary, Day 1312:
Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
I just noticed that today was the second anniversary of starting this newsletter. I will expand a bit on the milestones I have hit during these two years in Sunday’s Tada! List post, but I did want to take note of the date and extend my sincere gratitude to all of you today.
Most of you who started out with me in the beginning had already been following me on my blog and Facebook. That’s why today’s entry says Day 1312. When I started this newsletter, it was a continuation of a daily post I had been making on Facebook for over a year. Confusing I know, but I am proud of the fact that for 1312 days, without a break, I’ve sat at my laptop and written to you all, and I am even prouder about how many of you open up the newsletter every day. Frankly, I don’t believe I have ever done anything like this, every day, day after day, before in my life.
But back to the regular newsletter post!
As usual for a Thursday, I didn’t get much time to write yesterday, and when I did, I couldn’t concentrate. I have never been one to see a correlation between weather and my arthritis, but yesterday morning I woke to every joint aching, and last night I finally took some advil in the middle of the night. So, I am going to pretend that’s the cause, and hope that by the weekend, with the return to warmer, sunnier weather will ease the discomfort, and the writing will go better.
I did do yoga this morning, and clean, and ordered groceries, but it has now started to rain, so I will need to hold off on this. My poor husband was out walking when it started, so got a bit soaked. Photos are of the sky, first as the clouds moved in, the second of when it stopped raining a few minutes later. The rest of the day is forecast to have intermittent showers, so I hope to get at least a couple of short walks in. I also hope to make better progress on writing, but we shall see!
Normally, today I would be writing a post about what I recommend, and frankly, I found it so depressing--the only things we enjoyed were generally new episodes of programs I had already recommended, or rewatching shows like Firefly, which we have watched many times--that I decided to simply to go back to simply mentioning in my regular posts when I find something new to recommend.
Instead, given the response I got to yesterday’s question about how many of you who have read the first short story in my historical mystery series but will still enjoy getting a chance to reread if I put it up scene by scene in this newsletter, I am going to use Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to start putting up Dandy Detects. Tomorrow I will kick this all off with a post that talks about how I came to write this story, relates a few historical tidbits, and discusses the impact the story had on launching my career as an indie author. I trust you will enjoy!
