Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1333:
The day yesterday went as planned. I did Pilates twice, for 30 minutes each, prepared for and hosted the noon zoom meeting, and had an unscheduled meeting after the meeting, and then did a little editing (added 200 hundred words, but this morning in the half hour I took time to edit, I then cut over 700 words!)
I found the tylanol I took yesterday did help, but it mades me very sleepy so I didn’t take any in the evening. I still had a good night’s sleep, then did yoga first thing this morning. However, by that time the knee and other joints were complaining, so I took tylanol again this morning. I also just spent nearly two hours standing as I started the process of cleaning out both upstairs bathroom cabinets and cupboards to consolidate into one. A whole waste bin of stuff thrown out, and now I am pretty much down consolidating the first aid stuff, ace bandages, bandaids of different sizes, cotton balls. I can tell that these sorts of things got hidden in the back of the cupboard, so I would order some more. We now have enough to probably last the rest of our lives! I did discover a nice sleeve to put the ice pack I am using in that has a strap to tie the icepack on firmly. I’ve got it on right now and it is doing nicely.
Had fun yesterday day watching a mother bird feeding a baby, on the bougainvillea next to the bird feeder. I also finished listening to a Deborah Crombie audiobook, And Justice There is None. She is one of the few mystery authors whose series I always read (or now listen to) each time there is a new book. She has a large cast of characters, often includes a historical dimension to the setting, which is London, and various parts of the British Isles, and this book came about half way in the series. While I didn’t completely remember the plot, all the characters were familiar, a number of the new ones introduced I know will keep showing up in later books, so it was fun to see them at the beginning of their character arcs. It is a contemporary, British detective series (with a nice romantic arc to the series), and I highly recommend. If you are interested, I would definitely start at the beginning with A Share in Death.
I am now taking a rest from my cleaning, having a cup of tea, but after I put up this post, back to work on the bathrooms. Tomorrow comes the big move, taking our mattress into the front room, see how that works in terms of getting in and out of bed if we don’t try to move the bed frame (smile). Wednesday the material for the master bath gets dropped off, (dry wall, tile, flooring etc) so we will want to give them the option of putting that in the master bedroom, which is why we are making this move into the front room this weekend.
Since I am not walking, I am leaving with you some photos I took a couple of weeks ago.
