Daily Diary, February, 7, 2023 Day 889: I'm posting early today for a couple of reasons. One, I have a phone call scheduled in a bit, which will take me up to lunch, and another one with oldest friend in the late afternoon, which very well may last through dinner, so I wanted to see if I could reserve the 2 hours between lunch and that last phone call for nothing but writing. I did work for awhile this morning doing some editing on the scene i wrote yesterday (I had realized right at the end that I hadn't mentioned Eurig, my cute sentient - lemur like animal (called a gwynddoeth). Problem was that he was definitely there, had been very present in the scene before, but I forgot to include him. And I am sure some future reader would notice this.
Anyway, writing Eurig into the scene took a while and then it was time for my walk (I just finished 45 mins.)
My second reason for doing the post now, is that the algorithm that pushes these posts out on facebook, for the past week, has showed it to fewer and fewer of you (they let us see how many "impressions" which means number of different people who see the post in their news feeds.) Not unusual for these impressions to be 200-300 per post, last few days, more around 30-40. So, I am seeing if when I send it out is going to make a difference.
Finally, I decided that maybe the algorithm was tired of the small number of blooms, and so I would give you all a picture of Leeza sitting with my husband on the couch that was getting the morning sun!
Obviously, those of you here on substack are not facing this problem, because substack sends these posts out to everyone who subscribes—which used to be the way facebook worked with followers, in the way distant past! But I trust that you will also enjoy the photo of my silver-haired husband and sleepy faced dog.
I can tell you part of the problem with the counts - the system is asking us to reauthentate ourselves. And before you find that request it has presented a blank page which can cause confusion.
For me, I usually read/delete my emails in the morning and those from the previous evening. Today is the first time I got a message to verify my email Obviously, verifying me. I don’t think I’ve ever set up a password for your site. I’ve always just read your notes. I’ll see what happens tomorrow. The picture of your husband and the dog is cute.
