Daily Diary, Day 908: I did get started on the first chapter yesterday, and worked off and on today and that chapter as well as the second chapter, which I just completed editing. This took a fairly long time because beginnings of books can be difficult to balance what you need the reader to know, without bogging them down with too much detail. This is particularly difficult in a series, since some readers may not have read the previous books, or if they have, read them so long ago they've forgotten the details. And the last book in this series, Through Ddaera's Touch, was published over five years ago. Heaven knows, I've forgotten some of the details!
In any event, I did a fair amount of cutting, then weaving some of the information back in, hopefully in a more subtle fashion. Now, I can just hope that the next chapters will be easier, with more cutting and less weaving!
I also did the major downstairs cleaning, mopping up muddy footprints. There are still lots of clouds rolling through, but no rain today. Supposedly no rain until tomorrow evening, so I hope to get a walk in the morning. The temperatures is supposed to stay below 60 for most of the coming week, with rain again Monday night and then Wednesday. I know this is, as my mother used to say, "small potatoes" compared with the snow, hail, freezing rain, and very low temperatures that many of you in the US have been facing. But you know me, I do like a bit of weather, no matter how mild (smile.)
I need to get this posted, because I have a scheduled phone call coming up. But I will leave you with a photo from the beginning of last week, before the latest round of rain.
