Daily Diary, Day 827: My Favorite Things, day 3
Crows! They have definitely become one of my favorite things in the past year or so. They are all over the neighborhood, although they do seem to find a few specific lawns a good place to congregate in the morning.
In addition, we see--and particularly hear--them nearing sundown. I think I mentioned in an earlier post that when the time changed they started shifting from doing their nightly gathering in preparation of roosting to the west of us, to our immediate neighborhood.
I think they eventually spend the night in trees down in the canyon below us, but they do like to swirl around in huge numbers for about a half hour before the sun goes down, and our neighborhood is a bit higher than the land to the west of us so we capture the sun's rays longer. At least that is my explanation for the shift.
The other day, I was still talking on the phone in the late afternoon when this happened, and a bunch of them decided to gather in our front yard, pecking at the old dried up olives on the ground from our decorative tree. They were flying up past the window to get on the roof, and sitting in branches only a couple of feet from my window, and gathering on the ground. The photo is through the screen, so fuzzy, but I thought it give you an idea of how close they were.
I was delighted. For whatever reason, I like having them around. One of you, I'm sorry I can't remember who, recommended a book about crows that I went out and downloaded on Kindle and read some time ago. Made me even more appreciative of their intelligence and how fortunate we are to have them in such numbers in our neighborhood. The other photo is from 3 that I saw on my walk today.
The writing continues to go well. By the end of the day yesterday, I had written 1962 words, and today I am at 1371, and I may get a few more paragraphs written after dinner.
I also got in my full 60 mins walk, did the daily cleaning, had a long phone conversation, and did some activities to set up some promotions for the holiday. So all in all, a very productive day.
Oh, I'm also adding a few more clouds, because it was another one of those days where they were just fantastic, and you can't have too many favorite things in a day!
