Daily Diary, Day 703: Ok, this is going to be one of those posts were I laugh at myself for making a series of decisions that ignored my variation on an old saying, "when (wo)man plans, the universe laughs."
My plan was to walk, and get some good writing done today before my regular Thursday zoom meeting and the usual couple of phone calls that often follow that meeting.
But the grocery delivery was late, and by the time I had put the groceries away, it was already 10, hot, and in the high 70s (it is already 80 degrees now.) So, I decided not to walk, thinking that maybe it will cool down enough so I could walk after dinner, and this way I would get nearly 2 hours to write before I had to get ready for the meeting.
But, as I started out, I made the mistaken decision to check out the ages of some minor characters, which somehow led me to delete a couple of documents from a research folder on Scrivener, which is the writing universe I use (great for writing and having research at your fingertips.)
While this was not irrevocable, because Scrivener keeps everything in trash, it did take me some time to figure out what happened, find the document in trash, create a new folder with a better title, and copy and paste the information into the folder.
I retrieved the numbers I wanted, and started back writing again. I wrote a couple more paragraphs, then decided to check my word count to see if I my decision to forgo a walk for writing was paying off, but was completely aghast when the little project word count target thingie said I had written 4100 words! Wrong. So then I had to figure out what happened. Turns out I had checked a box that said to count words anywhere in the project, and my fiddling around with cutting and pasting to and from the trash had counted as part of my day's target. I fixed that, turned back to writing and promptly spilled tea on my white shirt.
Now this is pur-erh tea which is very dark (almost like coffee) and stains instantly. As I tried to blot the stain, I noticed it was now 11, and I might as well take the shirt off, give it a good scrub, take my shower, so I had time to write this post before getting ready for my meeting. Which is what I am now doing.
Word count??? who knows??? probably not more than a couple of hundred. Time wasted? Almost an hour or more. And of course I was doing what I said I wouldn't do, which is get side-tracked pinning down details.
Universe definitely laughing, as I am. Cause talk about an example of not sweating the small stuff. The only reason I am posting this at all is because I know how often this sort of one step forward, then rolling back down the hill, kind of day happens to all of us.
Going to end the post with gratitude: I had a good night's sleep, the grocery delivery was only missing oats, which we don't need right away, there is a little breeze so the house isn't too oppressive, and in the past 5 days I've averaged 1463 words a day! Which should help to make up for some of today's bad decisions.
A nice pinkish purple flower to brighten my and your day!
