Daily Diary, Day 604:
Well, I got a lot of good hours of work in yesterday…almost all of it was editing, and most of that was cutting! I found I had this enormously long chapter—nearly 3000 words—that needed to be divided up and trimmed. Also found a fair amount of duplication with an earlier chapter, which required cutting and shifting material from one chapter to another. All good stuff, making the plot flow, pace pick up. This often happens. I tend to be someone who over-writes, then needs to cut. Always been true, even with non-fiction. Anyway, part of the process, so I didn’t feel bad about it. Will try to make up the word count today, though.
As for the rest of yesterday, I actually did a full hour long walk in the morning, the first time since this winter when I broke my toe. I also did exercises before both lunch and dinner, which is good for keeping my blood sugar in the normal range in check. Rio the border collie coming over to play, a short phone call, a chatty email, and in the evening watching another episode of Harry Wild, Russian Doll, and starting Around the World in 80 days rounded out the day. The photo is of our dog Leeza, completely sacked out after dinner.
I’m not quite sure how I want to use this newsletter in terms of promotion. I am planning another substack newsletter that will go out once a month that will list all the discounts and giveaways for that month, that anyone who is interested can subscribe to. However, I may also try occasionally mentioning in this newsletter when there is a discount going on. In that spirit, since there is an audiobook that is currently being discounted but will go back to its normal price in 4 days, I thought I would mention it now. Dandy’s Daring Deeds is a compilation of already published stories that feature the Boston Terrier, Dandy, from my Victorian San Francisco Mystery series. The audiobook edition is only 99 cents on Chirp and Barnes & Noble, and $1.99 on AppleBooks. Happy listening.
