Daily Diary, Day 957:
Well, I’m almost finished with my Historical Tidbits post on San Francisco Parks, so I will put it up fairly early tomorrow. Besides working on that, and two phone calls (another one scheduled before dinner), I’ve been doing my major cleaning. Broke it up into three segments, and so far so good with the back, and now I have the last bit to do, to total is going to be nearly 2 hours.
Very gray day, chilly, but no rain. We finished the Rhomer French movies, there was one for each season. We have been alternating these quiet, nothing happens but people walking around in beautiful places talking philosophy and love, with action films, so I bet we will watch the 4th Bourne film tonight. (smile.)
I have been listening to my Carl Hiassan audiobook while cleaning, I do find his books great fun.
I also did a little research on hotels and dog stealing in the San Francisco newspapers in my breaks between cleaning. I have to share this one, hard to believe it is for real, but it is. It was listed in the section of the newspaper that lists all the information from the police courts the day before.
“Thomas Dickinson, alias Candy Tom, fined $60 for stealing dog valued $1, $20 for battering animal’s owner.” San Francisco Examiner, March,17 1881.
OK, cleaning is done, I’ve showered, getting ready for my last phone call, Back still good, but, boy am I tired!
I haven’t read a Carl Hiassan in years. In fact I started looking his books up again to read one!
I'd love to know the story about Candy Tom...... And why he stole a mutt. And why they fined him $60! He must have stolen it from an important person...maybe the Police Chief! Haha. Can't wait to read your story.
