Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary,Day 1484:
I made a joke recently that I wondered what third household object would develop a problem (since we had already had a water dispenser that failed, and a problem with the refrigerator freezing my veggies.) Wouldn’t you know it, as I sat down for lunch yesterday (my small moment of delight) and turned on the TV to watch a HGTV show, the sound wouldn’t work. Tried everything except unplugging the Roku device, which my husband did after he also tried everything after his nap. And that worked. So maybe we are at the end of current round of problems, although the fridge repair person was delayed until today, and is listed as coming at 11:59 (the window is 8-12) so I will be very surprised if he arrives. And while we have come up with an alternative for the water dispenser problem, we are awaiting croc dispenser and stand from Amazon, to see it this works.
Otherwise, yesterday was the usual, 2 walks, 2 phone calls, cleaning, and writing (400 words). Today, so far, I’ve had yoga, cleaned, paid more bills, and I am about to go on walk, then take a phone call.
Second house has sprouted Halloween decorations, they must have at least 9 different skeletons and ghosts and ghouls hanging from a tree in their front yard. First picture is from across the street, the second is close up of one of the skeletons.

Thank you for sharing your neighbors Halloween decorations. They look pretty good! I wonder what they look like at night? I usually hold of on decorations until only a few days before. Old fashion about that. But your pics might have inspired me to get creative a bit earlier this year. We can all stand for a bit of spirit lifting! :-)
Sorry about your irritating breakdowns taking the "wind out of your sails!". As for Halloween decor, nowadays I enjoy the cartoon variety as others are too realistic..
