Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1388:
Another day devoted to organizing in response to the bathroom remodels. This morning I started washing all the bedding from our bed, which has been on the floor in one of the two front guest rooms. Next, my husband and I moved the mattress back and put it on the bed-frame in the master bedroom.
You might not remember, but when we moved out of the master bed room we tried to move the frame and spent at least an hour turning it every which way to get it into the room, to no avail. That’s why we ended up putting the mattress on the floor, which became so difficult for me to get up out of with my arthritis flare-up that I have been sleeping in the guest bedroom. Getting the mattress back on the frame today was much easier, and I am looking forward to being back in bed at night with my husband. Smile.
We also moved all the clothes that had been hanging in one of the guest room closets back to the closets in the master bedroom, and then did the same thing with the clothes that go into the two dressers in the master bedroom. Even though I did a whole lot of weeding when we moved out of the master bedroom, in this move I still found some more things to get rid of, which is always satisfying.
I’ve also done my first walk, no breeze so rather warm and humid, but nothing to complain about given the heat (an in some places a tropical storm) so many of you are experiencing. I am now about to go soak my stye, which continues to improve, and then start to get ready for my noon zoom meeting.
Yesterday, and then again today there were sirens that sent our dog Leeza howling. She does this a couple of times a week, but she is usually outside, up on the deck. This time she was inside where I could see her so I got two pictures. I am afraid my husband encourages her, and I confess it makes me laugh she is so intent. We have never had a dog who routinely howls before.

I can almost hear Leeza in those pictures ☺️
In dogspeak she may be singing!
