Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1473:
Still haven’t been contacted to set the surgery date. Yesterday I did 2 walks, on top of cleaning and yoga. Its amazing how much more energy I have when it’s cooler. Today, I’ve already done first walk, and since this is the day to thoroughly clean upstairs, I’ve also done slightly over an hour of that mild exercise.
Worked hard on one chapter, yesterday, starting to add an entirely new scene, so by the end had added 500 words. I hope to finish that chapter today. Absolutely no phone calls scheduled for once.
Roses not past their prime were few and far between. But someone was obviously removing clutter from their house because for the past week there was a bunch of furniture on the sidewalk…looking like they hoped people to take the stuff for free. Yesterday, I saw most of it packed up on a truck, but this ornament was laying on the bank, like it had been forgotten. It was so intricate, I was tempted to take it myself. I will look for it on my second walk today, see if it is still there.
