Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1489:
I had fun writing my small moment of delight post yesterday. I also did the major weekly clean, although I sensibly broke it up into three separate sessions, and also only did one walk, so my feet weren’t too unhappy by last night.
I did get slightly over 570 words written on Saturday, and another 412 yesterday, so I should be able to start what I hope is the last scene today. That will leave only the epilog to write.
This means it’s time to reach out to people who have beta read the other books in the series, see who would like to read this one, although it might be time to find a couple of people who have recently read all four of the other books in the series. When books come out with a lot of time between the books, the reader, including me, can find it more difficult to spot continuity issues between books. I noticed that when I read the Foreigner series straight through, I started to notice a few minor inconsistencies that you would hope the editors would have picked up.
I’ve done my first walk, and today is the usual day for Rio to come to play, but otherwise I should be able to get in at least 3-4 hours to write. There is this one yard I’ve noticed has some butterfly ornament, most old and rusty, but there are so many of them! So here are a few!
