Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1482:
Despite the fact that I spent all of yesterday morning doing chores and a walk, plus a small writing assignment for a meeting today, I did get some writing done in the afternoon, 803 new words.
However, when I got out the lettuce for my salad at lunch, I found it…and all of the lettuce…was frozen, but that the inside temperature was 4 degrees higher than it was set at…which is sort of counter intuitive, unless the thermostsat was not working right and the fridge kept pumping out cold air when it should have shut off. So, I called and scheduled someone (we have a Sears protection agreement) to come look at it on Tuesday. This happened once before, and it was some part, which they fixed and it was fine. Since yesterday evening it has been at the right temp…so who knows.
We have been watching the Moonflower Murders on PBS, and enjoying (we watched last season’s Magpie Murders), and we are watching the second season of The Old Man (Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow are so good in it, acting their age!) They got an actor to play the young Jeff Bridges role, who really has the mannerisms of Bridges down so well, I had to look him up to make sure he wasn’t related to Bridges!
Today we are supposed to get the water dispenser, keeping my fingers crossed they send the right one this time. And there is part of me that is wondering which household item is going to ge the third one to fail us (smile.)
We have Rio coming over this morning, and then I have a couple of phone calls, but I hope to get more writing done.
Really lovely pink rose on walk today, but no more Halloween decorations. Wonder if after Oct 1 they will suddenly show up?

“Bad news comes in threes “!!
We watched the first episode of Old Men and loved! Like you, I thought the casting for the young Jeff Bridges role was perfect. Definitely shades of a young Jeff Bridges and his dad, Lloyd Bridges, as well! Good luck with your refrigerator, hope Sears can fix it.
