Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1465:
Definitely going to be another hot one, got up into the 90s here yesterday and it’s supposed to be even hotter today and tomorrow. Once again I have so much gratitude for the fact that we put in the heat pump so we have AC. It’s not just that we have started breaking heat records, but that I definitely seem not to tolerate the heat and humidity as much as I age. We are also glad we expanded our solar panels at the same time, since it means we are generating plenty of solar power, which not only means we aren’t paying for the extra use of electricity, but we’re sending power back out into the grid, which should be helpful in general.
I’ve already done yoga this morning and an hour of cleaning of the upstairs and now I will go and take my morning walk. Yesterday, I didn’t do a second walk because it was so hot, but I did do 20 minutes of Pilates and I will probably do that again today. I have a friend coming over to visit again today (it should still be ok sitting outside in the shade) which will take up a lot of the morning, but then I should be able to spend most of the afternoon editing. I had another good day of editing yesterday, with once again, cat around 600 words which seems to be, my average when things are going well
We had a gorgeous sunset last night, so I thought I’d leave you with that and a bird of paradise from yesterday’s walk.
