Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1479:
This morning it actually sprinkled and made the road a little wet. Wasn’t enough rain to make it through the olive tree to the ground, and I doubt whether it’s soaked in anywhere, but it certainly was pleasant. Another cool day is promised, although the sun came out for a few minutes at the end of my walk, but then disappeared quite quickly. I’m including a photo from this morning’s walk to give you a sense of at least how dark and foreboding the clouds were. That plus a rose that if you look carefully had a few drops on it.
I was an extremely busy yesterday, the in person visit n the morning, my usuals the noon zoom meeting, the scheduled meeting after the meeting and then a phone call that I took during my second walk. I did carve out an hour before dinner, that left me in a place so that this morning when I start back to work, I will be starting to write new fresh material.
Apart from the sprinkles of rain, today started as usual, with yoga, cleaning, and the first walk of the day. The new water dispenser was delivered while I was on my walk, unfortunately we’d asked for the simple room temperature dispenser and what was delivered was some new fancy one that provided both hot and cold water with lots of electronics. The delivery man had told my husband the fance one was the only ones available or the fancy dancy ones, but I suppose it could be it was te only one available on his truck. When I got home I called the company, they said they definitely carried basic room temperature coolers, but they would speak to some district manager, so it sounds to me like it may be a question of inventory. However, at this point they are scheduled to take away the fancy one and replace it with a basic one Monday. The tap water in San Diego is generally not very tasty, so fortunately, tomorrow is when we will be ordering groceries to be delivered, and we can order a couple of gallons of drinking water to use to get us to Monday.
OK I’m off to start writing. I will be glad to report on Sunday in my celebrations post how that’s going.

Such dark clouds always alarm me since I live on the Gulf Coast. We have had them in the morning for several days and received about .05 inch at our house each day. So, didn't need to water flower beds. I have kalanchoe and vincas that have been doing good in the heat and they make me smile!
Louisa- thanks for sharing this photojournal. I particularly love the way the clouds look in the background. It gives an extra something. Hope writing is going well? Cheers, -Thalia
