Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1486:
Yesterday, as per usual for Thursdays, I had some prep for my noon zoom meeting, then a phone meeting after the meeting. The morning was also the usual mix of cleaning, walking, with added time thoroughly drying vegies before putting them away, since I didn’t want everything to freeze the way they did this weekend.
Supposedly the part (damper control) is on its way to fix the fridge, with Wednesday to install the part – although I got one text that said someone was coming on Friday, then a text that said, sorry the repair person didn’t make it today (Thursday), but has been rescheduled for Wednesday. I can only assume that some computer is churning these contradictory texts out, and that there won’t be 2 different people coming on Weds!
However, the new water dispenser is working just fine, and is so much more decorative than the old one.
Today’s work was primarily rereading and editing the chapter I had been working on this week. But today and this weekend are pretty free, so I hope to make good progress on this next (and I think last before epilogue) chapter. Last night we started watching the new season of the police procedural, Van der Valk, set in Amsterdam, and are continuing to enjoy episodes of this season’s The Old Man, and Only Murders in the Building. And Feabag has become our short ?humorous? show to watch before retiring for the night.
The weather is being very consistent, clouds most of the day, occasional sun peeking out, slightly cooler nights. Very pleasant. Still finding an occasional rose, but also discovering more lawn ornaments. I wonder if I hadn’t noticed them before because my eye tends to go for the plants with flowers?
