Welcome, I’m Mary Louisa Locke, the author of the USA Today best-selling Victorian San Francisco Mystery series and the Caelestis Science Fiction series. In this daily newsletter, I reflect on my life as an indie author trying to age gracefully, including my struggles to maintain a balanced life, what I listen to, read, and watch for entertainment, and occasional bits of information I’ve gleaned from doing the research for my novels.
In addition, now and again I will provide some of my fiction to read, for free, on this newsletter. Everything is available to anyone who subscribes, but I am always pleased when someone shows their appreciation for the newsletter by upgrading to paid.
Daily Diary, Day 1493:
Wednesday, I worked on outlining the epilogue, yesterday I was ready to go back and edit the previous chapter, and both activities gave my hands a chance to rest from the big day of typing on Tuesday.
I also got an appointment to see about a cortisone shot for the other, less painful left hand, for next Friday, and I will get my flu shot then, followed by my Covid vaccine on Monday. The timing is great. I should have the draft done by next Friday, and since if I get the cortisone shot I am supposed to not use that hand, I can relax and let the draft sit (and let my arms which often get sore from vaccines rest). Then I can start to do the final edit of this draft to ready it to send to my beta readers.
I like it when a plan comes together!
Thursday, I only walked once, because I didn’t have time to walk before my zoom meeting, and once I finished working, it was too hot. We even turned on the A/C. After dinner we watched the new Brad Pitt/George Clooney buddy movie Wolfs, and I rather liked it. Very light fare, and they looked like they were having a good time.
Today I’m back to working on writing the epilogue, I’ve had my first walk, will do the second before lunch (going to be another warm day), and then a phone call after lunch. Then should have about 2 more hours to write.
During the morning walk, I took a photo of the 3 witches my next door neighbor puts up every year, and a couple of cute ghosts from another house.
